- Fatma's Dream - Mobile phone with camera and games
12 year-old Fatma is suffering from cancer.
She has been confined to a wheelchair for the last nine years of her life.
She dreams of owning an olive - colored mobile phone.
Fatma El Husseiny Abdel Hamid doesn’t know what it feels like to play outside with friends. She’s never skipped rope, never chased after her sisters, never scrambled onto a relative’s lap. Fatma has never jumped for joy. Since the age of three she’s been confined to a wheelchair. When she was barely out of nappies, her family discovered that she was suffering from a debilitating form of cancer that left her with a malignant leg tumor.
The youngest of six children, Fatma’s father passed away when she was very young. Her uncle took the large family under his wings, but money is extremely scarce and the twelve year-old is rarely afforded the chance to leave the stuffy confines of her home in Tawabek, Faisal. Venturing out would require the use of a taxi and that is a luxury they simply cannot afford. Taxi fare must be saved up for vital hospital visits. Her uncle has promised that when she is finally cured, he will treat her to a real outing. In the meantime Fatma has her heart set on an olive colored mobile phone with a camera. “I want to take photos of my nephews with it” she says. “I also want to play games on it and listen to my favorite songs.”
Fatma’s day was an exciting day for all involved; it was on Sunday 21st of September. The program of the fun day went so smoothly. a fancy car, provided by Chrysler Managing Director Mr. Edward Cummins picked her up from her house and took her for a day tour, then she arrived at the Marriott Zamalik and enjoyed a tour at the hotel, where we all had iftar with her, hosted by Mr. Ulrich Huth Marriott Zamalik General Manager, and surprised her with the mobile, donated by Rania Elwan who helped make this day possible, therefore we thank her very much.
